The Roots Debut New Single, Prep for NYC Shows
As fans for The Roots eagerly await the group's two night party at New York's Radio City Music Hall later this week, the Grammy-nominated group has already issued their first single off Game Theory, their Def Jam debut album, to DJs and radio stations nationwide.
The single, titled "Don't Feel Right," features an appearance from vocalist/MC Maimouna "Lunar Eclipse" Youssef.
As SOHH previously reported, The Roots will be joined by Nas, Common, Mos Def, Erykah Badu and Talib Kweli at the aforementioned two night party to perform and celebrate the upcoming release of the group's eighth album titled Game Theory. The star-studded event, sponsored by Verizon, and produced by Festival Productions, Okayplayer, and Radio City Entertainment, will take place on Thursday (May 18) and Friday (May 19).
The Thursday show will feature performances by Nas, Kweli, Common and others, while the Friday show will kick off with Mos, Badu, African singer Angeligue Kidjo and R&B duo J. Davey.
In addition to performing with some of the artists, The Roots will also perform older material from precious albums and new songs from Game Theory, which is slated for release late summer.
A portion of the proceeds from the party will go to the family of the late producer J Dilla, who died from Lupus in February.
