Star Headed Back To Court? DJ Envy's Wife Planning a Lawsuit
Gia Casey, the wife of Hot 97 on-air personality DJ Envy, may sue Star formerly of the "Star and Buc Wild Morning Show," New York's Power 105.1 radio station and its parent company Clear Channel Communications, according to reports.
In addition to making sexual comments and threatening Casey's 4-year-old daughter, Star reportedly told his audience that he had proof that Casey took part in group sex and requested sexual acts- calling her a "slant-eyed whore" in the process.
Kenneth Thompson, Casey's attorney, wouldn't reveal the suit, but said that the Caseys "are exploring all of their options." Thompson also said that Gia and Envy (born Rashawn Casey) feared retaliation from Star's fans.
A Clear Channel rep was not immediately reached for comments. Legal experts say Casey could sue for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
"They are not going to let this go," a source close to the Caseys told New York's Daily News. Pace Law School Professor Randolph McLaughlin said the suit could turn into a civil case "worth significant sums."
Meanwhile, Councilman John Liu, who called the press conference demanding Star's termination, recently declared that Power 105.1's bosses should donate $5 million to the Megan Nicole Kanka Foundation to make up for Star's controversial comments. Liu said the sum would match the amount Power has already paid Star. His Clear Channel contract was reportedly worth $17 million.
"Clear Channel thought it fit to broadcast a pedophile's fantasy, so I think it's only fair and appropriate for them to cough up $5 million," Liu told the Daily News.
The foundation was launched to commemorate Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl killed by her sex-offender neighbor.
Star was arrested on charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a child last Friday (May 12). Star had issued an apology through his attorney the previous day. Star was released on bail hours later.
