J. Period Crowned "Mixtape DJ of the Year" At Power Summit Awards
J.Period scored big at the 2006 Power Summit Awards Gala this Saturday (October 7), taking home the "Mixtape DJ of the Year" award in recognition of his achievements over the last year.
Power Summit, the annual DJ convention produced by RPM which is currently in its 9th year, was hosted last weekend by the Paradisus Palma Real Resort in the Dominican Republic. After famed "Best Of" collaborations with Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Nas, The Roots, Isley Brothers and Mary J. Blige, J.Period took home "Mixtape DJ of the Year" honors at this year's Power Summit awards gala.
Over the last year the Bay Area native, who now lives in New York has received support from MTV, Billboard, Spin magazine, VIBE and XXL. Now he has received an honor previously bestowed on some of the biggest names in the mixtape business.
"Looking at the DJs who have taken home this award since its creation-Green Lantern, Khaled, Drama, all of whom now have major label deals-really says it all," said J.Period of the honor. "It sets the tone for the year ahead."
J.Period is not without his own major label achievements. Def Jam, Interscope, Sony/GOOD Music and Geffen have each previously commissioned exclusive J.Period Promotional Mixtapes which have added valuable benefit to releases like The Roots Game Theory album, which went Gold, and Mary J. Blige's four times Platinum Breakthrough Experience.
After attending the Power Summit in the Dominican Republic, J.Period returned to New York in order to craft a line of exclusive "VH1 Hip Hop Honors" ringtones, featuring Rakim, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane and CL Smooth. J.Period is also producing an iTunes exclusive mix for Talib Kweli and polishing up his three-volume "Best of Mary J.Blige" collection which is hosted by MJB herself and also features interview material as well as new tracks and remixes produced by J.Period.
