Tupac T-Shirts Cause Legal Battle
The lawyers for Tupac Shakur's clothing line Amaru-Awa Merchandising have reportedly filed a lawsuit against Very Impressive Tees Wear Inc. (VIT) for trademark infringement.
Filed in the Los Angeles Division of the United State District Court, the suit claims that VIT used Pac's trademark without authorization and caricaturized the rapper.
Word is the aforementioned attorneys don't want Pac to be depicted in a cartoon-like way or any other manner that doesn't fit their definition of the icon. A source close to VIT deny the accusations, offering that the evidence submitted wasn't sufficient. The source also said VIT never sold the evidence to any retailer.
VIT's catalog includes T-shirts featuring satirical, parody and comedic versions of some of Hip-Hop's brightest stars, famous brands and movie stars.
In related news, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum recently unveiled a wax sculpture of the late great rapper. The sculpture is part of the "Tupac Eternal" exhibit and boasts the now iconic image of a shirtless Tupac sporting a bandana and displaying his tattoos.
