Tupac's Mom Postpones Trip To Africa To Scatter Son's Ashes

The ashes of Tupac Shakur will be not be scattered in South Africa next week to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the rapper's murder.
Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, and the rest of his family had planned to spread the rapper's ashes in Soweto on Wednesday (September 13), but Afeni chose to postpone the trip due to personal reasons.
The trip to South Africa will now take place on June 16, 2007. The date will coincide with the anniversary of the Soweto uprising as well as Tupac's 36th birthday.
"My family and I regret that they must postpone the trip to South Africa to a later date, due to personal reasons," explained Ms. Shakur via a statement. "We understand the work and time that everyone has put into making this trip possible but the work of helping the children and sick of South Africa must continue."
"We will still be sending aid and relief to those organizations and groups that we have established relationships with including the Nelson Mandela Foundation," she added. "Over the next couple of months, we want to spend time strengthening those ties. The invitation for the two students to come over to the Tupac ShakurCenter on an exchange remains open and we intend to see it to fruition."
The 10th anniversary of Tupac's death will now be commemorated in Atlanta at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation on Saturday (September 9th) at 1:00 pm. Afeni and the staff of the Center are asking everyone to bring a plant in memory of a loved one to place in the Peace Garden.
Tupac was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. He died 6 days later on September 13th. His murder still remains unsolved.
