Dallas Austin Admits To Cocaine Rap, Close Associate Responds

After briefly appearing in a United Arab Emirate court this morning, jailed super-producer Dallas Austin has been ordered to stand trial in Dubai on Sunday, for possession of cocaine.
As previously reported,
the 34-year-old producer was arrested at the Dubai International Airport on May 19 on charges of possessing and bringing in illegal substances for personal use. This morning the Gulf News reported their court sources in Dubai say Austin was carrying 1.26 grams of cocaine and five and a half capsules of cocaine and an MDM drug at the time of his arrest.
"The 1.26 grams of cocaine was found in his pocket," the source told Gulf News, while also confirming that Austin is still in police custody. Austin has been held without bail at a Rashidya police station in Dubai for more than a month.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Austin was formally charged with possession of 1.26 grams of cocaine during an arraignment-like hearing this morning. On Sunday Austin's lawyers will be able to present his defense.
Another report, published in United Arab Emirate paper the Khaleej Times, reported that after the May 20th customs search discovered a tablet and a piece of paper with drugs in Austin's pocket, a baggage search resulted in
the police confiscating one gram of heroin and steroid capsules. A police source for the Times told the paper Austin admitted to bringing drugs into Dubai during his interrogation.
"He told the investigation officers that he bought the drugs in the US for his personal use and forgot to remove it from his bag and pocket before he came here. The confiscated drugs were sent to the Forensic Laboratory. A urine test was also conducted."
Legal experts in the UAE have said that if found guilty Austin will likely face a four-year imprisonment.
We reached out to
Atlanta hip-hop duo Da Backwudz, who are signed to Austin's Rowdy Records for their reaction on the news.
"We just found out about it a couple days ago the same as everyone else," Da Backwudz said. "It's unfortunate, we have him in our prayers, he's a good dude."
Producer Milwaukee Black, who has worked closely with Austin for the last two years while executive producing Da Backwudz' Wood Work also offered his thoughts on the situation.
"That shit is crazy. I just heard about it the other day. I hadn't seen him in awhile, but I just figured he was chilling because he had been working hard on his
new album 8 Daze a Week," Milwaukee said. "I'ma just put homie in my prayers to return safe and quickly. One thing about that dude Dallas, he's been through a lot and always ended up on top. He's a survivor so I think everything will work out for him."
Milwaukee Black said he was not aware of any previous drug abuse on Austin's part.
"It came as a surprise to me. I just sit and wait, because something can be on the news, but I still say the word alleged. I'm not over there and I didn't see it directly, I've never seen it," Milwaukee Black said.
Da Backwudz are signed to Rowdy and
Universal Records through a joint venture with Milwaukee Black's Major Way Entertainment. Although Milwaukee Black believed Austin planned to take Da BackWudz on an overseas tour in the fall, he does not expect the group to be affected by Austin's arrest.
"I think everything will be fine with Dallas. I'm just praying for him and hope to see him soon. With Da Backwudz or any other group there is a time when you have to be a man and pick yourself up and grind it yourself. If Dallas is sitting with them or someplace else the group has to go out there and make their mark."
