Talib Kweli Weighs In On The War In Israel
Following a free performance at the Apple Store in Manhattan, NY, (July 18) Talib Kweli took time to weigh in on the war in Israel.
The war between Israel and Lebanon was triggered after terrorist organization Hezbollah (an orthodox Islamic group that hold seats in the Lebanese government) kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed 8 others on July 12th. Since then both countries have been engaged in warfare leaving hundreds killed and more wounded. The war continues to escalate with both countries reaching no agreement.
"Israel's a powdered keg; it's always been like that. The way Israel even came into being is a shady situation. People feel very strongly, you have people fighting and these issues are lasting for generations. It ain't just no hip-hop beef. It's something that goes from generation to generation, a sad state of affairs," Kweli exclusively told SOHH.com. "I feel like arabs... in that region have done some foul things. I feel like Israel has definitely done some foul things. [It's] a war everybody loses. I just think people need to be respectful, every group, regardless of whether they're rich or not."
Meanwhile, Kwe took the stage before a packed house in support of his forthcoming album, Eardrum. Jean Grae, the first artist signed to Kwe and partner Corey Smith's Blacksmith Music imprint, also took the stage. Eardrum will feature production from Rick Rubin, Kanye West, Kwame, Hi-Tek and others while UGK, Norah Jones, Strong Arm Steady and the aforementioned Grae, will provide guest appearances.
Eardrum is slated to hit stores in September/October.
