From Harlem To Hollywood, Jim Jones Heads To The Big Screen
Jim Jones has garnered a monstrous buzz thanks, in part, to "We Fly High." A day before Hustler's P.O.M.E (Product Of My Environment) hits stores, SOHH caught up with the Dipset Capo to discuss multi-million dollar joint ventures and his debut movie role.
Earlier this summer, word began spreading that Jones was readying his third album, Bright Lights & Big City, for a fall release. Since then, the album title has been changed to Hustler's P.O.M.E (Product of My Environment).
"The label was pressuring me cause it was getting close and they had to give the media a name for the new upcoming album, so I just did Bright Lights & Big City cause that represents where I'm from and things like that," Jones told SOHH. "But if you look at all my album titles, they really have a real significant meaning behind them. I was just waiting for the real album title to come to me and it came to me. And that was Hustler's P.O.M.E. (Product Of My Environment)."
Since he began dropping albums independently two years ago, Jones has put solid numbers up. Though his latest single is rivaling major label buzz, Capo isn't ready to give up his independence. In fact, it'll cost a pretty penny for anybody who hopes to sign Jones to a major label joint venture.
"They gotta put like $25 million, that old school money, that old school joint venture money they used to put up, you dig?" Jones said. "That's when they was giving out that big money to this hip-hop movement of ours cause they knew how important it was. But nobody was handing in they products and everybody was flopping and not handling the business thing, so that's why they stopped giving out those big ass advances and joint ventures and shit like that.
"Well, I'm here to show them now we're putting all the work in," he added. "I deliver all my shit and I deliver on time and I deliver hits."
Jones is now poised to make the transition to Tinseltown. After fielding a few offers, he's scheduled to play his first role in a motion picture later this month. Unfortunately, he's remaining tight-lipped about the project's details. "I'm in the midst of getting ready to film my first two feature films at the end of next month," Jones told SOHH enthusiatically. "It's a good feeling. They're trying to put your boy in movies. A nigga like me I'm straight from the hood, so it's nothing but a blessing.
"I ain't gon say no names," he added. "I'll tell you one thing, I got some fucking actors in there that you niggas know from since you was motherfuckin young and all that. I'm with some actors, some real actors. Actors that you've seen in 'Rambo' and shit like that."
