Black Eyed Peas, T.I., Eminem, Kanye West Among AMA Nominees

T.I., Eminem, Kanye West, and the Black Eyed Peas are among the Hip-Hop artists nominated for this year's American Music Awards. Nominations were announced Tuesday (Sept. 19) by actress Carmen Electra and singer/actor Tyrese. The Black Eyed Peas, Carey, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nickelback lead the way with three nominations each, while Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Jamie Foxx, the Pussycat Dolls, Rascal Flatts, T.I., Carrie Underwood, and Kanye West each collected two nominations. A nine-time AMA winner, Carey is nominated for Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues categories as well as Favorite Album in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category for The Emancipation of Mimi. Carey will battle Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Furtado, Mary J. Blige, and Keyshia Cole for Favorite Female Artist. The singer will face Blige again, as well as Jamie Foxx, for Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Album. In the Rap/Hip-Hop category, the Black Eyed Peas will square off against Dem Franchize Boyz and Three 6 Mafia for Favorite Band, Duo or Group, and Eminem and T.I. for Favorite Album. The group, who secured the nominations off the success of the album Monkey Business, is also up for Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Band, Duo or Group alongside the Isley Brothers and Jagged Edge. Houston rapper Chamillionaire will go head to head with the Pussycat Dolls and Carrie Underwood for Favorite New Breakthrough Artist. The 2006 American Music Awards will be broadcast Nov. 21, live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
