NYC's Lincoln Center Honors Hype Williams

Acclaimed hip-hop music video and film director Hype Williams is the subject of a special presentation this week at New York's Lincoln Center.
As part of the New York Video Festival, renowned NY Press Film Critic Armond White is dedicating an entire evening to the work of Williams. Believe the Hype: An Auteur Study of Hype Williams "The Best Who Ever Did It" will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 8:30 pm at Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater.
This 90 minute presentation will explore Hype's undeniable influence on
hip-hop culture and the music video genre, taking an in depth look at Williams early work, career highlights and celebrated collaborations with hip-hop artists like Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes. Delivered by leading film critic and author Armond White, Wednesday's presentation will give special focus to the style innovations popularized by Hype Williams.
While White has previously dedicated columns to critiquing videos by Dave Meyers (Ludacris' "Stand Up) and Mark Romanek (Jay-Z "99 Problems") this will be his first in-depth auteur study of a music video artist.
"As a cultural critic, Armond is always exciting, always intriguing and always provocative. This year, as he focuses on the work of one artist, Hype Williams, we expect a rousing evening of music and image that will rock the Walter Reade Theater," NY Video Festival programmer Marian Masone of the Film Society at Lincoln Center told us.
