Bronx Rapper Shot Dead, Best Friend Shot In Chest
A Bronx rapper was left dead, while his friend was found on the fourth floor of the building on 784 Fox Street, early Saturday morning (June 2nd).
According to an investigator, 29-year-old Derrick Francis, an aspiring emcee who rapped under the name "Gangsta," was stabbed at approximately 4:30 a.m., on Southern Boulevard by an unidentified man. He was then chased, along with his best friend Randolph Harrell, by a group of men who shot at them and then fled the scene.
Derrick Francis was found dead in the lobby of his apartment building where he resided with his girlfriend and twin daughters. "These little girls are going to grow up without knowing their father," a friend of the family, Drina Jones told the New York Daily News. "He was just a good person and didn't deserve this."
20-year-old Randolph Harrell, was shot in the chest. He was taken to Lincoln Medical and MentalHealthCenter and is currently in stable condition, according to the police.
Mr. Francis' relatives said he was shot after he tried to intervene in a fight between other people. But an investigator, who requested anonymity because the investigation had just started, gave a different version of events.
Francis had independently released a CD, Gangsta: From My Block to Your Block. He was known for mentoring children in the area and had just celebrated the birth of his twin daughters.
The police did not disclose a motive for the shooting and there were no instantaneous arrests.
