Detroit Nightclub Closes, Shady Honors Rapper Proof
The Detroit nightclub where D12 member Proof was shot and killed is shutting down for one year. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, a deal was struck with owners to close the club. Owners must also pay fines for illegally operating after hours. "We got everything we could under the law and we got it very quickly," Prosecutor Kym Worthy told the Detroit Free Press. The club was the scene of a fatal April 11 shooting involving Proof, born Deshaun Holton. Police believe the 32-year-rapper shot and killed Keith Bender Jr. during a heated altercation. In turn, Bender's cousin Mario Etheridge opened fire on Proof killing him instantly. Etheridge is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm inside a building. In related news, Eminem's label Shady Records recently erected a large billboard in Detroit in Proof's honor. The billboard at Interstate 94 and 14th Street reads: "Big Proof Forever...1973-2006."
