NY DJ Cipha Sounds Gets His MTV, Named Network's New VJ
New York-based radio personality Cipha Sounds will make his debut as MTV's newest VJ during next week's "Sucker Free Week" lineup.
"When I consider everything I've done in my career so far I'd have to say this ranks as one of my highest accomplishments," Cipha said via statement. "I'm excited and ready to bring more of the hotness to MTV."
25 year-old Bronx, NY native is probably best known as host of "Cipha Saturdays" on New York's Hot 97 and his weekday morning show Cipha Sounds Effect on Sirius Satellite Radio's Shade 45 channel. He also holds the position of Senior Vice President at Jay-Z's world music label Roc La Familia.
"Cipha Sounds is a dynamic talent across the board," Tony DiBari, Senior Vice President of MTV Production, said via statement. "His credibility coupled with our brand of innovative multiplatform music programming sets the stage for the next phase of MTV."
Cipha's duties at MTV will include hosting "Direct Effect," the network's hip-hop and R&B video countdown show, as well as projects for MTV, MTV Overdrive and MTV Wireless.
"I always wanted to be on MTV," Cipha said in a recent Associate Press interview. "I have street cred, as you could call it, as a hip-hop DJ because I play the real music, but I always had a funny edge to me. I'm not like a grimy mixtape DJ."
Cipha Sounds begins work at MTV on Monday (April 10) as host of "Direct Effect," kicking off "Sucker Free Week," MTV's week long celebration of hip-hop which will also feature numerous hip-hop guests.
