Graf Artists To Unite at Hall of Fame Celebration

The Graffiti Hall of Fame is slated to celebrate its 24th anniversary in New York in June.
Graf artists
showcase their work at the Hall of Fame annually. This year's event will feature a competition in which upstart graffiti writers will tag their pieces with bragging rights up for grabs. The contestants will be judged on three different styles, burner, wildstyle and three dimensional.
The Graffiti Hall of Fame was introduced in 1980 by Sting Ray, a NY community activist, in conjunction with graf artists like Dez aka DJ Kay Slay, among others. Ray launched the Hall of Fame to provide artists with a positive
medium to display their skills.
In its early stage, the Hall of Fame served as an exclusive space for reputed subway graffiti artists in New York. The Hall of Fame now attracts artists from all over the globe. The New York event has also sparked similar exhibits in other cities.
Some of the pieces shown at the event have also surfaced in the
classic film Style Wars and TV shows like "YO! MTV Raps" and "New York Undercover." TATS, Cope 2, T-Kid and Seen are among the countless artists to have made appearances at the event while Reebok, Ecko, Vanilla Coke, Red Bull, Frito Lay and Vitamin Water have all sponsored the Hall of Fame in the past.
In related news,
fashion designer Marc Ecko recently threatened to sue the City of Denver if they didn't revoke anti-graffiti ordinance.
The Graffiti Hall of Fame's 24th Anniversary is slated to take place June
24 and June 25.
